Elite 1 MMA - Redemption - Arsenault vs Goodall

In the main event, Richard Arsenault (5-2) of Wellington, PE defeated tough challenger Ricky Goodall (9-7) via unanimous decision after 5 rounds to retain his Elite 1 MMA Welterweight Championship. It was a razor thin win as Arsenault won 3 rounds to 2 rounds for Goodall on all three judges' scorecards. Arsenault is now riding a 3-fight win streak and his bout against Goodall has to be the most satisfying as he was fighting an athlete with more experience and a never give up will to win. Arsenault mixed up his attacks enough through the championship bout to get the nod and become even more battle tested in the cage. Most onlookers had the bout even going into the final round where Arsenault pulled out the victory do in large part to his conditioning which made him the fresher fighter and his attacks more effective. Goodall came into the fight looking to take the championship and he almost did that by trading effectively with Arsenault in the standup but it was not his night as Arsenault did what he needed to do to retain his belt. It was a great main event and ending to the event as both fighters should be proud of their performance.

In the co-main event, Matt MacGrath (7-8) defeated Nabil "The Thrill" Khatib (11-8) via tapout to injury in round one. MacGrath is a Bellator veteran and true to form came out swinging and was on the offensive right from the beginning as his tenacious striking and grappling caused the unforeseen injury to Khatib with just over a minute into the fight. With the win, MacGrath looks like the #1 Contender for the Welterweight Title and a fight with him and current champion, Arsenault could main event most card on the regional circuit in North America. Both fighters love to take their fight to their opponents and if they fight that type of fight against each other be ready for some fireworks.
