Lion Fight Muay Thai VI: "Schilling vs Marcus 2" was an epic show. The WBC full-rules Muay Thai event lived up to its billing, especially the main event which was a rematch of two of the top Muay Thai fighters in the world, Joe "Stitch 'Em Up" Schilling from Los Angeles, California against the undefeated Simon Marcus of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The proceedings took place in the fight capital of the world at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and when the night was over, combat fans watching worldwide got their monies worth. Lion Fight Muay Thai was voted Muay Thai Promoter of Year in 2011 and after this event, it looks like they are in the lead to do it again in 2012.
In the much hyped main event, the leather was flying as Simon Marcus (27-0) defeated Joe Schilling (12-3) by majority decision to win the WBC Interim Light Heavyweight Championship and becoming the #1 Contender for the world title. The first round was a barnburning, back and forth fight as both men looked to make a statement by trying to end the fight early. Schilling almost did as he dropped Marcus with a straight left for a standing 8-count. The scene was reminiscent of their first battle, but in reverse. But Marcus rose to his feet and the battle continued at the same break-neck pace for the next 4 rounds. Throughout the bout, Schilling landed several looping right hands, short left hooks and front kicks that caught the attention of Marcus. Marcus mixed up his attacks going to the head with straight punches and landing leg strikes to Schilling's thighs. Schilling was able to nullify Marcus' throws, but Marcus landed with knees throughout the bout and was always the one moving forward as the knees did a lot of damage and took the wind out of Schilling. In the fifth and final round, Marcus used effective clinch work to scored effectively with series of knees while Schilling looked content to lock up in an over under clinch minimize damage and try and conserve energy. But in the fifth it was clear the knees took their toll even when Schilling tried to land his famous elbows as he was a step behind Marcus at every turn. In the co-main event and in another highly anticipated rematch, Thanit "Boom" Watthanaya (46-12) defeated Romie Adanza (16-4) by split decision in a super flyweight matchup after a strategic 5-round bout fought by both men. Thanit probably got the nod due to his relentless leg kicks that landed on Romie's body throughout the bout even though Romie was very active himself and did damage. Don't miss this awesome card. Rarely can you catch lighting twice in a bottle but Lion Fight Muay Thai did just that with "Schilling vs Marcus 2" as not only the main event but the whole card delivered a five and a half hour striking extravaganza.
