Ultimate Reno Combat 39

Rick Collup's Ultimate Reno Combat 39 took place on Saturday, February 9 at the Reno Events Center. The MMA fights on the under card were won by Tony Gallegos, Ryan Herrera, Miguel Burbridge, Jason Powell, Brando Amaro, Arason Perry, Sinjen Smith, Danny Ramirez and Terrell Bosen. The Main Event was won by Andrey Mitchell who now holds the Ultimate Reno Combat Bantamweight Champion belt.
Jared Bon Tempo vs John Brown (Under-18 Pankration)
In 3 rounds of brutal back and forth standup and ground work. Jared Bon Tempo of the Reno Academy of Combat won the opening "Under-18" Pankration match at 1:45 in the third round via guillotine choke.
Tony Gallegos vs. Cory Carrino
Taking the fight on one day's notice Tony Gallegos of the Reno Academy of Combat defeated Cory Carrino from Ascend Fight Team at 1:08 in the first round via guillotine choke.
Ryan Herrera vs Jordan Benson
In a three-round war, Ryan Herrera defeated Jordan Benson by a split decision.
Jhon Rivera vs. Miguel Burbridge
It was a debut match for both fighters: Burbridge representing Sektion 8 Fight Team and Rivera from the Reno Academy of Combat. However this almost purely standup bout, was simply a beautiful fight to watch as both men displayed what could best be described as a Jeet Kune Do meets Muay Thai bout.Burbridge won via unanimous decision.
Jorge Cruz vs. Jason Powell
One of the hardest hitting fighters of the night had to be Jason Powell of Paradise, California representing Freestyle Fight Systems who simply dominated his entire fight. Powell defeated Jorge Cruz of Team Taction in the second round via referee stoppage due to strikes.
Brando Amaro vs Isaiah Wright
In what was primarily a jiujitsu/wrestling match, Brandon Amaro of the Reno Academy of Combat won his MMA debut match against a seasoned opponent in Isaiah Wright via unanimous decision.
Armando Espina vs Arason Perry
In a rematch, Arason Perry, representing Susanville's Iron Pit Fight Team defeated Armando Espina by unanimous decision.
Sinjen Smith vs. Melvin Washington
In what could have been considered fight of the night, Sinjen Smith of the Reno Academy of Combat fought his way to his fourth consecutive victory by vanquishing Melvin Washington at 44 seconds in the second round via ground and pound.
Eric "Spike" Vance vs Danny Ramirez
Danny Ramirez, a Marine serving at Bridgeport, California's Mountain Warfare Training Center and representing the Mountain Warrior Fight Club defeated Eric Spike Vance of Sparks, Nevada. The first round was back and forth between stand up and jiujitsu by both fighters. In the second, Vance slammed Ramirez to the ground, but ended up on the wrong end of Ramirez's ground and pound. The fight was stopped and Ramirez won via referee stoppage due to strikes.
Jim Jennett vs Terrell Bosen
In the final fight of the under card, former Ultimate Reno Combat Heavyweight Champion, Terrell "Big Baby" Bosen defeated Jim Jennett via Americana shoulder choke at 1:19 in the first round.
Edward Schmehl vs Andrey Mitchell
In the Main Event, Edward Schmehl from the Reno Academy of Combat faced Andrey Mitchell of Havok Skwod for the Ultimate Reno Combat Bantamweight Title. The two men fought a brutal five round war in the cage that went to the judges who unanimously declared Mitchell to be the winner.
