Western Canada's top MMA promotion returned as Hard Knocks Fighting Championship presented School of Hard Knocks 30: Calgary, from the Century Casino. The action packed 12-bout pro/am card featured 6 stoppages as many of the top up and coming superstars of the Great White North showcased their talents for the world. HKFC is the top proving ground for rising prospects in Western Canada and the 30th installment once again delivered a great night of fights.

In the main event, in the welterweight division, battles Michael Madrid (11-8) from Wand Fight Team out of Las Vegas, Nevada defeated Ryan "Sylvan Lake Strangler" Machan (17-9) from Arashi-Do in Red Deer, Alberta via split decision after a grueling fight that had everyone in attendance wondering what the decision would be in a razor thin decision. It was a solid win for Madrid who controlled the fight with his striking and used his elbows to stay out of trouble when Machan would use his wrestling and get Madrid down to the mat. Both fighters gave all they had and at the end of the bout it was clear that both men deserved to be called winners on this night, but the decision went to the American who showed that even against hometown odds he was still able to overcome everything in the cage and bring back a W to Las Vegas.

In other action, Dale Tallman delivered one of the most vicious KOs ever in Hard Knocks Fighting history as he defeated Dex Ryland in round one in less than a minute. Tallman is a former boxer and took full advantage of his striking superiority and smaller gloves by landing a perfect punch to Ryland's jaw, ending the fight in an instant.

In more action, Keegan Oliver defeated Rob Nelson via decision in a classic back and forth grappling match as these two put on a clinic for fans new to the sport and the art of submission grappling.
