School of Hard Knocks 26: Prince Albert

Central Canada's top MMA promotion returned as Hard Knocks Fighting Championship presented "School of Hard Knocks 26 - Prince Albert", from the Art Hauser Centre. The action packed 13-bout card had 12 fights ending in either KO or submission for a great night of finishes for the fans watching on GFL.tv. HKFC is the top proving ground for rising prospects in Western Canada and the 26th installment promises to deliver great fights once again.

In the main event, Devon "The Giant Killer" Smith (5-1) from Prestige Worldwide in La Ronge, SK defeated Elias Cepeda via TKO in Round 1 of a light heavyweight shootout. The victory makes it 5 wins in a row now for Smith all coming via stoppage and 4 of them ending in the first round. Smith is called "the Giant Killer" because of his tenacious style of fighting where he unleashes an all-out assault on his opponent. At the opening bell, Cepeda did a great job of closing the distance and getting in tight on Smith to stay away from the striking exchanges, but Smith then landed a takedown and started firing off punches from the mount. Smith then went for a rear naked choke, but Cepeda did a nice job of spinning away from the submission. Smith got side control and went back to throwing punches as he landed a series of blows until finally the ref called a halt to the fight. After his performance, Smith seems like the natural #1 Contender for the 205 lb title.

In co-main event, Hayden Bye defeated Adam Basaraba by KO in round 3 of a middleweight bout. This bout was likely the fight of the night as both Bye and Basaraba went back and forth against each other and both showed the skill level of two up and coming fighters. In the middle of the fight, Bye took control with use of some dirty boxing, and getting Basaraba down to the mat where Bye started to unload shot after shot until the end of the round, saving Basaraba for the time being. In the third and final round, Bye could see the finish line as he attacked Basaraba, who was still recovering from the second round, with a series of strikes on his feet. Basaraba fell to the mat where Bye continued his offense and landed big right hands on the ground until the ref stopped the bout.
