Event Description

Western Canada's top MMA promotion returned as Hard Knocks Fighting Championship presented "School of Hard Knocks 24 - Estevan" at the Spectra Place. The action packed 11-bout amateur card featured 8 stoppages and showcased many of the top up and coming superstars of the Great White North. Every fighter that stepped into the cage gave it their all and proved that Canada has a promising group of fighters for the next generation.

In the main event, Devon "The Giant Killer" Smith (4-1) defeated Derek Daku (2-1) by guillotine choke in round two of a heavyweight barnburner to win the HKFC Heavyweight Championship. Smith now holds a 4-fight win streak, all by stoppages. Daku had never been past the first round and technically his heavy hands made sure he never even went to 2:00 of the first round. But Daku did not fade as after a close round one which saw a lot of clinching and Greco wrestling, Daku started off round two with a nice takedown. Smith has a smart game plan and clinched with Daku on the mat making it hard for Daku to unload any strikes with real finishing power behind them. Smith bided his time and Daku relaxed for a split second on the mat and that was when Smith sunk in the choke from the bottom earning the tapout and title.

In the co-main event, Ron Gonzales (2-0) defeated Chris Wilson (0-1) via armbar in round one of a lightweight scrap. After some striking by both, Gonzales shot in for and landed a nice takedown. From side mount, Gonzales trapped Wilson's right arm in a figure four with his legs and as he punched Wilson in the face, he pulled back with his legs extending Wilson's arm and getting the tapout victory.
