School of Hard Knocks 19: Calgary

Western Canada's top MMA promotion returned as Hard Knocks Fighting Championship presented School of Hard Knocks 19 Calgary, at the Century Casino in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The action packed 11-bout pro/am card had 9 fights end in either KO or submission, including all 4 pro bouts. HKFC is the top proving ground for rising prospects in Western Canada and the 19th installment continued that trend as all of the fighters came out to make a statement, and did.

In the main event, Advin Omic (9-4) from Arashi-do in Red Deer, AB defeated Paapa Inkumusah (4-4) from Gracie Barra in Calgary, AB by rear naked choke in Round 1 of their welterweight clash. Omic proved his is stronger on the ground then the Gracie-affiliated Inkumusah as he was able to get the tapout victory in less than one round. Omic worked for a takedown almost immediately while Inkumusah pummeled for position and did some great clinch work to thwart Omic's advances. Once Omic finally did get the fight to the mat, he attached with punches and kept Inkumusah off balance by using transitions to change position. Finally, Omic ended up on Inkumusah's back and secured a body triangle and then sunk in the fight ending choke.

In co-main event, Ryan Machan (15-7) from Arashi-do in Red Deer, AB defeated Keto Allen (6-4) from Canuckles MMA in Calgary, AB by rear naked choke in Round 2 of a 180 lb contest. Round one was mostly full throttle stand up with some clinch work as both Machan and Allen went after each other with haymakers. Allen landed a takedown late in the round and got Machan's back but could not finish, but did rack up a 10-9 round. In round 2, it was Machan's turn and after the fighters hit the ground, Machan went to work and got Allen's back. After a few punches to soften up his opponent, Machan finished the fight with a variation of a rear naked choke. Allen for his part looked more exhausted than hurt as he might have had an adrenaline dump as he could not move once Machan took his back. This bout had great action throughout and was a candidate for "fight of the night".
