World Series of Fighting (WSoF) returned to GFL.tv with "World Series of Fighting - Mayorga VS Ortiz II". The event featured many of Central America's top up and coming MMA fighters as the event was held in Managua, Nicaragua. The main event was headlined by multi-time boxing World Champion Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga as he returned to the cage looking for his first victory in a new combat sport.
In the main event, Sergio "Checho" Ortiz (3-1) defeated Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga (0-3-1) via armbar in the second round. The two clashed this past October with Ortiz picking up the decision victory, but he left nothing to doubt this time as he sunk in the fight ending submission after withstanding the punching barrage of Mayorga, who was intent on going down on his shield this time by doing what he does best, throw hands. Ortiz remained composed and stifled Mayorga enough in the first round by landing knees from the clinch and dodging most of Mayorga's power punches. In the second round, Ortiz got a takedown. Once on the mat, Ortiz used his superior grappling to land punches and elbows in the mount before catching Mayorga with an armbar to get the tapout win. With Mayorga still looking for his first win in MMA, you have to wonder how much longer he will continue in the sport.
Sydney Machado picked up a victory against Brian Green via unanimous decision. Machado was the hometown hero and claimed the victory with his powerful wrestling as he dominated on the ground as Green was usually on his back trying to get up. Machado showed tremendous takedowns and top control as well as mixed up his attacks by throwing haymakers that kept Green on the defensive.
In other action, Wesley Tiffer dominated Cesar Velasquez with a second round submission win. Tiffer was a season vet and showed a well-rounded MMA game, while Velasquez looked like he came from a traditional boxing background which had him overmatched inside the cage. Tiffer grabbed a standing guillotine before Velasquez dropped him to the mat where Tiffer ended up in the mount. From there, Tiffer implement a forearm choke and Velasquez didn't know what to do, so he tapped out.
WSOF continues to change the MMA landscape. Check out their return to Central America with "World Series of Fighting - Mayorga VS Ortiz II" which can be ordered now on GFL.tv.
