King of the Harbor made its debut on the GFL Combat Sports Network and delivered an exciting showing at the Charlotte Harbor Events Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. 8 of the 10 fights ended in either KO or submission and the fans got a great look at the future of the sport as many of these fighters were stepping into the cage for the very first time.
In the main event, Al Rivero (1-0) defeated Doinik Shipman (0-1) via armbar in Round 1. After a quick takedown and then working to top position, Rivero isolated Shipman's arm and got the tapout victory. Rivero showed that he has a great foundation in the grappling arts and if moved along slowly, he could be a force in the lighter divisions over the next several years. In the co-main event, Jeremie Cook (1-0) defeated Christen Harney (0-1) in a middleweight bout via arm triangle in Round 2. This was one of the most exciting fights of the night as both Cook and Harney came to do battle. They exchanged solid punches in the standup and their mat work was always active. Cook was a little more prepared on the ground and worked for several submissions finally getting the choke and the victory in the second. Tune in to see these newly christened mixed martial artists make their debuts on a fast moving, pedal to the metal amateur MMA card. King of the Harbor delivers exciting action with every fight.
