"Epic Fighting 12" returned on the GFL Combat Sports Network from the Four Points Sheraton in San Diego, California. The 11-bout card featured some of the rising locals in the Southern California area and provided a great night of action packed amateur fights.
In the main event, Kaiyana Rain (3-1) defeated Lena Hellgvist (1-2) for the Epic Fighting 115 lb Female Flyweight Championship in a razor thin decision. In round one, Rain landed the heavier punches and did some damage to Hellgvist in the standup game. In round two, it was too close to call as the women traded shots in the clinch and each female did damage to her opponent. In round three, Hellgvist landed a takedown, but scoring wise that was nullified as Rain was successful in a takedown of her own. In the end, it was a highly competitive fight in which the fans got their monies worth as both of these females would be worthy of the victory. On this night though, it was Rain who got the nod and the championship to go along with it. In the co-main event, David Lee (2-0) defeated Francisco Castro (5-5) by split decision in a featherweight tilt. In round one, Castro picked up a takedown to score points, but Lee nullified anything else by closing the distance and keeping a body lock on Castro to prevent spacing and any strikes being landed. In round two it was more of the same as Castro went for a takedown and again Lee grabbed him holding on so that Castro could offer little in the way of offense. In round three the fighters finally unleashed their full arsenal as Lee and Castro both threw kicks and punches, knowing the decision still hung in the balance. Lee probably sealed the deal with a takedown of his own here as both men landed hard, meaningful shots earlier in the round. There was already talk of the winner of this bout being next in line for a title shot at 145 lb. Watch the stars of tomorrow compete today. Be sure to catch all of the action still available on video on demand as Epic Fighting presents "Epic Fighting 12" on pay-per-view exclusively at GFL.tv. |
