Event Description
Xtreme Fight Events returned on with "Cage Wars XVII", a 16-bout pro/am scheduled card, emanating from the Harrah's Casino in Chester Pennsylvania. "Cage Wars" has quickly solidified itself in Pennsylvania as a top-tier MMA event, and the fighters on "Cage Wars XVII", were all ready to throw down in the cage.

In the main event, for the XFE Heavyweight Championship, former IFL competitor "Brutal" Brendan Barrett (7-5-1) defeated Bellator veteran Randy "The Wolf" Smith (13-12-1) via unanimous decision after a hard fought battle that saw both men go back and forth and give the fans' their monies worth in an awesome main event. It was a sweet win for Barrett who two years earlier fought to a draw with Smith, so this bout was almost a mirror image of their first bout, but Barrett did just enough to pull out the victory and capture the gold. With the victory, Barrett is on a 3-fight win streak, and with this bout the brutality is ready to reign in XFE. Barrett and Smith both kept the pace of lightweights for most of the fight, and Barrett was effective in the clinch with strikes and in his trip takedowns and controlling the action on the ground from the top position including landing solid elbows in the position. In round two the pace slowed a bit as both men preferred to fight from the clinch for most of the round trading punches. Barrett got a single leg takedown and again controlled the top position and even went for a rear naked choke, but Smith was able to defend well. In round three, the size factor of Smith finally paid dividends as when the action went to the mat it was Smith who was staying busy on the ground and had top position. Smith landed a big left hand from the ground and controlled the round. But Barrett had won the first two round and got the nod from the judges in a hard fought and hard earned fight for the new champ.

In the co-main event, Joey Camacho (5-6) defeated Dustin Caplinger (4-3) via unanimous decision in a lightweight contenders match. This was Camacho's first fight back after two and a half years and he was able to shake off the ring rust and put together three solid rounds of fighting against a gritty competitor like Caplinger. Camacho was able to bust up Caplinger's face with his striking and it was a great showing by both fighters as neither ever retreated. Camacho trains with the vaunted AMA Fight Club and he promised his next fight he would knock somebody's head off.
