Cage Fighting Championship presented another night of exciting fights with "CFC 21" as the #1 Australian MMA promotion showcased internationally recognized stars in combination with up and coming local prospects all on an amazing 9-bout card that featured 6 stoppages either via KO or submission. The event took place from the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre and featured a title fight along with veterans of the UFC and PRIDE doing serious damage in the cage.
In the main event, CFC Welterweight Champion Jesse Juarez (18-8) defended his title as he defeated the home country hero, Robert Whitaker (9-2) by unanimous decision after a grueling five round war. Juarez used a great combination of wrestling and striking to control his opponent during the fight earning a solid win and growing his legacy on the Australian continent. Whitaker was a formidable opponent as he was able to score big with punches during the bout both in standup and on the ground. The younger Whitaker pushed the pace at times, but the veteran Juarez was able to nullify a lot of the offense by Whitaker via his strong wrestling which he used to control the bout and always went back to when he was in a spot that was dicey.
In the co-main event, Soa "The Hulk" Palelei (13-2) defeated Bob Sapp (11-11-1) via TKO in round one. Sapp went for a half-hearted takedown which Palelei easily defended and as both men hit the mat Palelei landed a series of punches while Sapp just covered up. The bout was over in seconds.
In other action, Jeff Monson (41-13) defeated Jim York (12-4) via decision. Monson proved the ADCC Champion and UFC vet still has a lot to offer the game as York is a big challenge for anyone and Monson left Australia with a solid victory.
