On Saturday, January 29th at the beautiful Turning Stone Casino and Resort, Franklin Lawrence scored a tenth round stoppage over former U.S. Olympian Jason Estrada in a exciting and bloody bout that was for the WBC Interim Caribbean Heavyweight title. Lawrence battered Estrada in the ninth and tenth rounds as he opened up bad cuts around his eyes as blood dripped out of his mouth. The stoppage came despite Estrada’s repeated attempts at landing low blows in an effort to buy some time. It was Lawrence’s second straight big knockout as he was coming off a stoppage win over perennial contender Lance “Mount” Whitaker. With the win, Lawrence of Indianapolis, Indiana improved to 14-2-2. In the co-feature, Jose Medina scored a stunning fourth round stoppage over Isaac Rodrigues. It was a competitive fight over the first three-plus round until Medina landed three crushing blows that knocked Rodrigues briefly unconscious that will hopefully propel Medina into a meaningful fight. Rodrigues would lay motionless on the canvas for several minutes but was able to leave the ring on his own power. Amanda Serrano and Ela Nunez waged a six round war that thrilled the crowd in the ladies Jr. Lightweight division that saw the two girls land some vicious shots before Serrano was able to win a unanimous decision. Local favorite, Derrick Evans scored a punishing first round knockout over Steven Tyner in a Light Heavyweight bout in Evans pro debut. Other winners include Latif Mundy, Andy Mejias and Stephen Scott |
